A HISTORY OF THE ROBINSON RETREAT FLYING R RODEO

 * Established December 2000

 * Owned by Fred & Dianne Robinson

 * Ranch & Bull Manager - Jason Huffman

 * Located in Jefferson Davis & Lawrence Counties of Mississippi

The Robinsons purchased 416 acres of land to semi-retire and raise Limousin Cattle. In the middle of 2001 they were able to purchase the 97 acres that was a part of the original ranch. Since then an additional 272 acres has been added to make a total of 785 acres. The property was previously called the Lazy S Ranch and had an old arena that was falling down. Thoughts were to demolish the arena, an arena that had been the place of rodeos for nearly thirty years, beginning in the early 1960's and going up to 1989. Mr Buddy Steverson was the owner and producer of these rodeos and he agreed to help put on one more rodeo if the arena were restored. So, 2003 was the first rodeo to begin a new life for the New Hebron, Mississippi rodeos, now called the ROBINSON RETREAT FLYING R RODEO, with a capacity to hold close to 4000 people.

Since 2003 the Robinsons have been producing at least 2-3 events at this location per year. 2005 was the first event with a well know entertainer, RCA recording artist, JEFF BATES, raised in Mississippi, just 11 miles from the arena.

2006 continued to bring stars to the events, stars such as Jeff Bates & T Graham Brown.

2007 will bring John Conlee on April 6th and T. Graham Brown returns April 8th. Jeff Bates returns the June 29th & 30th.

With the 2003 decision to refurbish the arena there was no intention of owning rodeo stock, but that didn't last long. July of that year the first purchase of bulls was made form Bubba Terrell of Sara, Ms, and in that purchase was one bull, #110 Blackberry Wine. Blackberry Wine was a 2004 ABBI Classic Finals qualifier and as of this time has only been ridden a couple of time for 90 & 91 points.

Since then we have purchased stock from many well known breeders. One in particular is Billy Bridges of Prentiss, Ms. Others are Jeff Tilly of Senatobia, Ms, Jimmy Crowthers of Gypsum, Ks, and GM Bucking Bulls owned by Greg & Mary Willingham of Cross Plains, Tx. We are very thankful to all for their help and support.

At this time approximately 200 bucking stock females and approximately 70 bucking bulls of various ages with genetics reside on the ranch, genetics from such bulls as Blueberry Wine, Raspberry Wine, Strawberry Wine, Bodacious, Kid Rock, A6, Wolfman, Coffey's Dueces, Scat Cat, Pan Handle Slim, White Sports Coat, Houdini Neon Nights, Cowboy Cash, Satan's Own, etc.

We are very excited about our fertility prospects for 2007 & 2008, and feel we have truly been blessed to have accomplished this much in our breeding program in such a short time. Thank you for visiting our web site and please feel free to browse.
